At Del Rey Chiropractic, we use an adjusting style commonly referred to as “Diversified.” An analysis of the spine is performed that may involve a case history and X-ray pictures of the spine. Subsequent visits may include motion palpation, with the chiropractor feeling the spinal joints move while the patient turns and bends. A leg check may also be performed, to uncover an imbalance in the neck or lower spine. With the malposition of one or more spinal bones identified, a specific manual thrust is administered. The energy delivered during the thrust can produce a slight “popping” sound from the shifting of gas and fluids in the joint. While improving spinal biomechanics can reduce nervous system interferences, virtually all joints of the body can be adjusted to help restore proper range of motion.
The Activator Method utilizes an adjusting instrument that is a handheld, spring loaded tool able to deliver a consistent low force, high speed thrust. Because it is many times faster than adjustments delivered by the hand, the body rarely tightens to resist, making adjustments comfortable and effective. It's also helpful for adjusting elbows, wrists, knees and other joints of the body.
The Thompson Technique has evolved into a system of analysis and a way of adjusting the full spine. Early chiropractors noticed that vertebral subluxation complexes would produce the appearance of a short leg. Using a protocol of comparing leg lengths while the patient turned their head, a chiropractor could determine whether the subluxation was in the upper, middle, or lower back. Using a segmental drop table, a patient is lowered to a horizontal position to preserve any leg length inequality. Individual cushions located along the table surface support each area of the spine until a thrust is delievered. Then, each cushion gently gives way, reducing the amount of energy needed to move a specific spinal segment.
The Cox Flexion-Distraction is a gentle, non-force adjusting approach utilizing a special table that opens up compressed spinal discs, and reduces pressure on facet joints of the spine. This highly effective technique combines osteopathic principles with the specific, highly-directed approach used in chiropractics. The combination offers a conservative resolution for low back and leg pain that often averts the need for surgery.
Brain Based Therapies
Brain Based Therapy is a drug free approach that helps fibromyalgia, balance disorders, chronic pain, migraine headaches, chronic fatigue and other chronic illnesses. The treatments focus on balancing the right and left hemispheres of our brain. Our neurological treatments consist of treating cerebellum and brain dysfunction by supplying fuel and activation. We use various modalities including: light, sound, laser, smell, eye-lights, oxygen, micro-current electrical therapy, vibration and other therapies to help balance the brain and nervous system.
Our new Aqua Thermassage bed combines flotation, heat and massage to produce relaxing, stimulating, dry hydrotherapy. Patients experience a high pressure water massage that increases circulation and the number of red blood cells circulating, relaxes muscles & breathing patterns, and reduces spasms & pain, tension and cramping. This technique also helps facilitate tissue healing, elevates pain threshold, and can be used to relieve congestion in the lungs through percussive and compressive movements.
Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression is a relatively new procedure, primarily used to treat disc injuries in the neck and lower back. Distraction forces are applied to the spinal structure with resting points, to gently seperate the vertebrae from each other. The seperation creates a vacuum inside the discs being targeted. This enables a herniated or bulging disc to retract into the inside of the disc and off the nerve root, thecal sac, or both. The cycles also promote the diffusion of water, oxygen, and nutrient rich fluids from the outside of the discs to the inside, allowing the torn and degenerated disc fibers to begin to heal.
Applied Kinesiology uses muscle testing as a guide for diagnosis and patient care. The ancient Chinese observed that every muscle in the body links to a specific organ, gland or acupuncture meridian. By testing the strength of its related muscle, we get a glimpse of the condition of that particular organ or tissue. This testing helps uncover the structural, chemical, and mental problem that may be in the body as well direct us to the best options to restore health.
We have two highly requested and well trained massage therapists within our office. You may choose from a variety of services that take place in a warm, quiet room wuth soft music to create a relaxed atmosphere. The following techniques are available:
